• I hired this company to install a central air/heat sytem in a rental unit that previously had none. Day 1 they had me purchase the condensing unit and furnace and advance them $200 for materials. With the $200 they purchased $112 worth of material to use on day 2 and the lead guy (Steve Cozart) used $65 to pay a doctor bill and the rest he used for gas. ( He put that $88 as a draw) Day 2: Destroyed carpet in the closet where furnace was to go and cut the closet shelves up to build a platform for the furnace, built the platform, and requested another $200 for additional materials. Day 3: Cut ceiling in closet for plenum, cut vent holes in 3 rooms. Aluminum door from screened patio missing. Steve was not there when I went by the house to check progress, helper denied knowledge of missing door. Day 4, Steve absent, helper cut vent holes in 2 other rooms. Neighbor tells me he saw lead guy and helper with the door tied to the top of their car. Could not reach Steve but contacted the helper and had him come to the house. Helper denied stealing the door but admits to them having stolen some aluminum window screens from the attic. I then fired them and have tried for a week to contact Steve. It appears that he is running the place for the retired owner but when I called the office "Cindy" said they thought he was in jail but the jail did not have him listed. She tried to make me believe his last name was Williams and seemed surprised when I told her his last name was Cozart. Surprised that I knew his real last name that is. I know for a fact that he has worked there for YEARS and she definitely knows his real last name. An internet check of court and arrest records shows a lengthy criminal record on John Steven Cozart with a current outstanding warrant for his arrest for theft of property from $1000 - $100000.(along with a photo) Too bad I didn't do this check BEFORE hiring them. Police report has been filed and I WILL be pursuing charges as well as a small claims case for the $400 since I have had a different contractor come in and he informed me that EVERYTHING done so far was done incorrectly and that the furnace will have to go in the attic which means I have a destroyed closet that I now have to repair. The materials he purchased were incorrect and therefore useless to me and the vent holes will have to be re-cut to the proper size. Steve Cozart, the man you will deal with at B. Howard Heating and Appliance is a literal and verifiable THIEF and Cindy, the lady that answers the phone is covering for him. I was required to give a minimum of 1 star in order to submit this rating but in reality they deserve ZERO STARS (tf38118, 06/25/2009)
